Marble coloration in bettas is a result of a mutation known as a “jumping gene." This gene is able to move between the fish’s chromosomes, resulting in an ever-changing color pattern. Marble bettas are just as healthy as fish without the jumping gene but may experience a variety of color changes throughout their lives. Some marble fish start out solid turquoise only to end up a few weeks later with a red-and-white butterfly pattern. Other betta types such as Koi Galaxy and other types are also prone to this coloration difference because they are mixed with some marble betta genes. The change won't be as drastic as a 100% marble betta but it can vary. The photos are taken when the fish is 4-6 months old when they are most prone to change and maybe months before they are bought so the possibility for some color change can occur. In the event the betta change color too drastically you should be notified and updated about the color changes to the betta. If you think your betta has color changed too drastically or even the wrong fish please send as many clear photos as possible of the areas that look different to doa@coastgemusa.com. make sure to include your order number as well as the product number for the item in question.
